고목의 새순
세월이 지나며
꽃도 열매도 떠나고
푸르던 줄기와 가지는
검게 그을려
병자처럼 메말라 간다
한때 환호를 보내던
행인들이
눈길을 거둘 때면
그는 말없이
속울음으로
저문 햇살을 견딘다
어느 봄날
부드러운 바람이 와서
주름진 몸을 쓰다듬자
고목은 검은 가지 끝에
연둣빛 새순 하나 내밀고
잃었던 청춘을 노래한다
그 노래에
노인의 눈동자 속에서도
소년의 꿈이
반짝인다
New Shoots on an Old Tree
As years pass,
Flowers and fruits depart,
The once-green trunk and branches
Are scorched black,
Withering like one long ill.
When the passersby
Who once cheered
Turn away their gaze,
He, without a word,
Bears the fading light
With a silent sob.
One spring day,
When a gentle breeze arrives
And strokes his wrinkled body,
The old tree, at the tips of its dark branches,
Puts forth a pale green shoot
And sings its lost youth.
In that song,
Even in an old man’s eyes,
A boy’s dream
Glimmers.
